Permanent Resident Card
WHEN YOU CAN APPLY:
You can apply for a new card, If your permanent resident (PR) card is expired or will expire in less than 9 months or any of the following conditions apply to you:
- your card is lost, stolen, or destroyed
- you didn’t receive your card within 180 days of immigrating to Canada
- you need to update your card to:
- legally change your name
- change your citizenship
- change your gender designation
- correct your date of birth
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY:
Most new PR cards are valid for 5 years. To be eligible for a PR card, you need to:
- Be a permanent resident and
- Must be inside Canada
- A person can’t apply for a new card if he is under some removal order or asked by government to leave Canada.
- PR card is a travel document and a person must carry this while traveling to Canada, without one or with an expired PR card, you may not be able to board.
- Must prove IRCC that you comply with the residential obligation conditions
Citizenship Application
WHO CAN APPLY:
Most new PR cards are valid for 5 years. To be eligible for a PR card, you need to:
- Must not be inadmissible.
- Must complete citizenship residency requirements 3yr in last 5 yrs from the date of application.
- Must qualify Citizenship test.
- A person between 18 to 54 must qualify language test.
NOTE : There are certain exemptions to citizenship & language test .
